LabRyxTM Software

LabRyx enables manipulation of micro- and nano-scale objects such as cells, viruses, bacteria, and nanoparticles with an unprecedented level of precision and control.

The LabRyx software is an alternative software interface designed for power users. It offers enhanced imaging capabilities and advanced control of optical trapping functions.

LabRyx Software Features:

Individual real-time movement speed control for every trap
Instead of instantly following mouse movements, every trap in LabRyx can be set to move at a different speed. You can move small, difficult-to-trap objects tens of nanometers at a time without having to move the mouse accordingly slowly. Alternately, easily trapped objects that can move quickly can be pulled at their maximum movement speed consistently.
Multiple trap types to adapt for varying object shapes
Line traps, extended-depth traps and optical vortices allow you to trap and rotate oddly-shaped and asymmetrical objects. Control the degree of line trap rotation for every trap individually to assemble structures or circuits out of wires, rods, or cylinders. Each individual optical trap can be set: at any location in the three-dimensional sample space; with a desired maximum speed; with a desired relative power; as an optical vortex ring with adjustable diameter and rotation direction; as a horizontal line trap with adjustable length and orientation; as a vertical line trap with adjustable length; as a hidden trap for temporary deactivation; or with a combination of any of the above parameters.
Queued, parallelized real-time movement
Extensive and complex movement paths can quickly be drawn with the mouse and objects will move along them at the speed you choose. Traps can be raised and lowered as they move along in order to avoid obstacles, and new movement paths can be created while objects are still moving along other ones. Pause trap movement, stop and redirect particular traps, and resume movement when desired. Move traps tens or hundreds of microns outside the field of view automatically.
Streamlined user interface to maximize efficiency
The mouse interface has been designed to maximize the speed and variety of operations one can perform. Tabbed control windows allow for dozens of custom controls to provide an intuitive interface. A table of trap information allows you to identify exactly where traps are and what they are doing, while an information window provides helpful information about using the software. Keyboard shortcuts provide a quick way to utilize common functions.
Support for hundreds of cameras
From inexpensive analog cameras to high-end scientific cameras, LabRyx integrates with a wide array of imaging devices to provide versatility. The supported cameras include DirectShow-compatible cameras (i.e. the standard BioRyx Sentech camera), IEEE 1394 (Firewire) DCAM-compliant cameras, and all Qimaging cameras.
Extensive imaging functions, including zoom, ROI, and color settings
Imaging is critical and sometimes the limiting factor in micro- and nano-scale manipulations, so LabRyx offers many approaches for tackling challenging imaging problems. Zooming into images increases trap precision and object visualization, while region of interest settings enable faster frame rates for catching transient phenomena. To support fluorescence applications, LabRyx provides separate brightness, contrast, and gamma controls for each of the red, green, and blue channels. Camera-specific controls, such as exposure time and white balance, are also supported.
Lossless video recording with trap location overlays
Identification of where optical traps were during an experiment no longer need be done after the fact; the trap overlay option can record where optical traps were at every frame of your video. With the integration of lossless recording, recorded video frames exactly match the original images.
3-D rendered visualization of trap patterns from any angle
3-D visualization allows you to observe complex trap patterns and movement from any angle, position, and zoom level, eliminating the difficulty of ascertaining spatial trap orientations from a 2-D image.
Requirements
LabRyx is intended for use with a BioRyx 200 optical trapping system.
